Recently the Mauritian magazine "Weekly" has published an article entitled "Vertiginous Rise of China from Ashes to Modernity" written by Mr. Philip Li Ching Hum, a Mauritian scholar, highly commending the achievements of economic and social development of the People's Republic of China in 71 years since the founding of the People's Republic of China as well as its advocacy of global solidarity against COVID-19, and refuting scathingly USA's malignant slandering as well. The full text of the article is as follows:

October 1 is a red-letter day in the history of the People's Republic of China. It was in 1949 in Tien Anmen Square that Mao proclaimed the founding of the People's Republic of China in an atmosphere of joy and euphoria after years of foreign domination, civil wars and famines. Since then after untold humiliations and exploitation, China has braved many a storm to be what it is today thanks to the resilience, sacrifice and hard work of its population. Today, China prides itself on having lifted over 800 million people out of poverty-an unprecedented feat in human history.

This year, the People's Republic of China's National Day is celebrated in a difficult context against the backdrop of the pandemic COVID-19 and the US Trade War.China, in the course of events, rises above ideological disputes and does not fall into the trap of the "clash of civilisations". While others are trying to politicise the pandemic through stigmatisation, China extols solidarity,inter-connected global village with a common stake to save humanity from this scourge. It firmly believes solidarity and co-operation are the most powerful weapon in the face of Covid 19.The pandemic is now under control while others are struggling hard to combat it.

China has never ignited conflagrations in other countries be cause of their self-interests or egoism.Nor is it a war-monger country embarking on arm sales to set a country ablaze a whole region on flames and destruction. On the contrary, China has a different vision of the world. It has a win-win policy.Never has it the aim of colonizing any part of the world or of bleeding it to white as the western power has done with poor countries. China's dream is totally different. It propounds human welfare. It aims at the development of countries to stir them out of dire  poverty and squalor and to establish a better life for them by building good infrastructure. Kishore Mahbubani, a prolific Singaporean political analyst wrote: "If the US was wise enough to come up with a state-backed plan for its economic future, it could co-operate rather than compete with China" which already has such a programme". Now it is all a matter of years that China will surpass the US in terms of economy and technology. This explains why Trump is not sleeping soundly and wants to dismantle China into bits and pieces as the US has done with Soviet Union in the days of Gorbachev. But China is too cemented together.

On this very historic day of celebration of its national day, let us wish China many happy returns of the day and the friendship between China and Mauritius will forge ahead with stronger ties with the Silk Road ahead.
