Spouse of Chinese Ambassador to Mauritius Wang Ju Attends Award Ceremony of Short Video Contest Combatting Child Maltreatment

On December 12, 2020, Counselor Wang Ju, spouse of the Chinese Ambassador to Mauritius, was invited to attend the award ceremony of short video contest combatting child maltreatment organized by United Chinese Association in collaboration with Hindu House and Mauritius Film Development Corporation. Mr. Avinash Teeluck, Minister of Arts and Cultural Heritage of Mauritius, Mr. Sanjit Kumar Nuckcheddy, member of National Assembly of Mauritius, Mr. Eric Lim, President of United Chinese Association, Mr. Luxshmee Ramdhun-Bundhun, Chairman of Hindu House, representatives of contestants together with hundreds of children participated in the event.

In their speeches, Mr. Eric Lim and Mr. Luxshmee Ramdhun-Bundhun underscored that recent years have witnessed child abuse in Mauritius frequently, which is worrisome and alarming. As children are the future of the nation, all sectors of the Mauritian society have the responsibility and obligation to increase the awareness of protecting children's rights and interests, pay more attention to children, and provide children with a better growing environment.

Counselor Wang Ju, on behalf of the Chinese Embassy, presented awards to the winners, encouraging them to continue to focus on the development cause of children in Mauritius, take root in life, and produce more outstanding works.

After the award ceremony, Counselor Wang Ju went to the Tranquebar area of Port Louis and distributed school bags, drinking glasses as well as other learning equipment and daily necessities as New Year gifts to more than 100 disadvantaged children in the area in the presence of United Chinese Association. Counselor Wang Ju conveyed New Year greetings to the children, expressing hope that they will continue to study hard and grow up happily in the upcoming new year.

The children who received the gifts cheered with delight. Overwhelmed by joy, they took a group photo with Counselor Wang Ju.
