On 20 November 2019, Ambassador Sun Gongyi paid a courtesy call on Hon. Avinash Teeluck, the newly-appointed Minister of Arts and Cultural Heritage of Mauritius. The two sides exchanged views on people-to-people exchanges and cooperation between China and Mauritius. Mr. Song Yanqun, Cultural Counsellor accompanied the meeting.

Ambassador Sun said that different ethnic groups and different cultures in Mauritius are in harmony and Mauritius is a model of a multicultural society. In recent years, the cooperation between China and Mauritius in the cultural field has yielded fruitful results. The work of the Chinese Embassy, especially the China Cultural Center, has received strong support from the Ministry, which the Embassy appreciates a lot. The Embassy hope that China and Mauritius will continue to strengthen cultural exchanges and enhance the understanding and friendship between the two peoples.

Mr. Teeluck noted that the performance of the Chinese original ballet show "Mulan" in Mauritius was a huge success, which was an unparalleled artistic feast. Chinese culture has long been an integral part of Mauritian culture. China-Mauritius cultural exchanges and cooperation will be deepened with the support of the two governments and play a positive role in promoting the development of bilateral relations. We hope the two sides could strengthen cooperation to take Chinese culture to rural areas as well as schools, make it well known by Mauritian people.
