The world finals of the 19th Chinese Proficiency Competition for Foreign Secondary School Students, one of the major competitions under the Chinese Bridge programme, recently wrapped up in Tianjin, a municipality in northern China. Divsha Jharittaya, a student at Gaetan Raynal State College in Mauritius, delivered an outstanding performance in the points-based “Bridge-Crossing” challenge, the Chinese-themed speech contest and the individual talent showcase. Demonstrating fluent Chinese and clear, well-structured expression, she secured a place among the global Top 30 finalists and ultimately won Third Prize. Her achievement earned her the opportunity to study in China for one semester, bringing pride and honour to Mauritius.

Launched in 2001, the Chinese Bridge programme has expanded its reach to more than 160 countries and regions over the past 25 years, engaging more than 1.8 million young learners from around the world.
