Chargé d'affaires Mr. Gong Yufeng attended the 35th Council of Ministers of the Indian Ocean Commission

On May 20, 2021, the 35th Council of Ministers of the Indian Ocean Commission (IOC). The Secretary General of the IOC, representatives of member states and observer members, as well as representatives of the French Development Agency and the African Development Bank attended the virtual meeting. Mr. Gong Yufeng, Chargé d'affaires of the Chinese Embassy, attended the meeting as Chinese representative.

In his speech, Mr. Gong Yufeng stated that for many years, China has actively participated in the the IOC affairs, supported its capacity building and development, and continuously deepened practical cooperation with the IOC and its member states to contribute to regional peace, stability and development. In the next stage, China will continue to support the IOC to strengthen its mechanism and regional integration on the basis of win-win cooperation, and strengthen cooperation in areas such as maritime safety, climate change, environmental protection and fighting the epidemic. China will also contribute positively to the economic recovery of the countries of the region and deliver more benefits to the people in the region.

The Indian Ocean Commission was established in 1984. The Council of Ministers meets once a year in a regular meeting. In 2016, China became the first observer member of the IOC.
