Ambassador Sun Gongyi Pays a Courtesy Call on Newly-Appointed Minister of Foreign Affairs, Regional Integration and International Trade Alan Ganoo​

On March 8, 2021, Ambassador Sun Gongyi paid a courtesy call on the Hon Alan Ganoo, newly-appointed Minister of Foreign Affairs, Regional Integration and International Trade of Mauritius. The two sides exchanged views on Sino-Mauritian relations. Ambassador Mr Haymandoyal Dillum, Secretary for Foreign Affairs, was also present at the meeting.

Ambassador Sun Gongyi congratulated Minister Ganoo on his new post, saying that China and Mauritius have a long history of friendship. Especially in 2018, Chinese President Xi Jinping paid a friendly visit to Mauritius. Afterwards Mauritian Prime Minister Jugnauth went to China to attend the Beijing Summit of the Forum on China-Africa Cooperation. The mutual visits have effectively pushed the relations between the two countries to a new level. Thfe Sino-Mauritian Free Trade Agreement has officially entered into effect on January 1, 2021. This will surely further promote Sino-Mauritian economic and trade cooperation in various fields and inject new impetus into the economic development of Mauritius. Ambassador Sun Gongyi expressed gratitude towards the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Regional Integration and International Trade of Mauritius for its long-term assistance provided to the Chinese Embassy and hoped that the two sides will further strengthen working contacts and maintain close cooperation in the future.

Minister Ganoo said that Mauritius and China are good friends and partners. Since the establishment of diplomatic relations in 1972, bilateral relations between the two countries have been developing steadily and healthily. Mauritius is grateful to the Chinese government for its long-term selfless support and assistance, hoping to continuously strengthen cooperation between the two countries in various fields. It is believed that the signing of the Free Trade Agreement between Mauritius and China will bring more opportunities for the future development of Mauritius. It is hoped that the business communities of the two countries can seize the opportunities and continue to deepen and expand cooperation. Mauritius welcomes more Chinese companies to invest here. The Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Regional Integration and International Trade of Mauritius will continue to provide facilities and assistance to the Chinese Embassy to carry out its work.
