Ambassador Sun Gongyi Meets with Governor of the Bank of Mauritius

On February 18, 2021, Ambassador Sun Gongyi met with Mr. Harvesh Kumar Seegolam, Governor of the Bank of Mauritius. The two sides exchanged views on topics such as financial cooperation and economic and trade exchanges between the two countries.

Ambassador Sun Gongyi underscored that China and Mauritius have always maintained good bilateral relations with frequent economic and trade exchanges as well as close financial cooperation. The Chinese government will unswervingly continue to carry out opening up, the signing and taking into effect of the Free Trade Agreement between China and Mauritius has shown this determination. Ambassador Sun Gongyi lauded the achievements of the Mauritian government in promoting economic recovery and strengthening financial supervision, saying that China is willing to work with Mauritius to continue promoting the progress of bilateral cooperation in relevant fields.

Mr. Harvesh Kumar Seegolam said that the Mauritian government is committed to social and economic development in the post-pandemic period, further regulating the financial industry, actively improving the business environment and attracting foreign investment. He pointed out that the Free Trade Agreement between China and Mauritius formally took effect in January this year, which will enhance the level of mutually beneficial cooperation and openness between China and Mauritius. He expects that the two sides will continue to strengthen exchanges and cooperation in various fields, especially in the field of financial services.
